This classic three-card layout uses time as its organizing idea: what shaped the situation, what is active now, and what direction may be worth considering next.
Card 1: Past
Use the first position to consider influences, habits or prior events that still matter. It need not describe your entire history.
Card 2: Present
The present position focuses attention on what is active now: constraints, emotions, resources or a pattern you may not have named yet.
Card 3: Future
Treat this as possibility, not certainty. Ask what could follow if current patterns continue and what choices remain under your control.
Reading the sequence
After interpreting each position, read the three as one sentence. Notice movement between suits, repeated themes, reversals if you use them, and whether the final card amplifies or challenges the first two.
